Remote vs. Virtual Attendance​
Our world has changed quickly and dramatically since the start of the pandemic, resulting in an array of attendance options for our classrooms, meetings, and conferences. This page includes an assortment of key terms and explanations as to how we are defining crucial terms like "remote" and "virtual." What is the different between "remote" and "virtual"?​

The largest difference in these terms is whether or not there is an in person component. Remote attendance simply means that one attends an event via a video chat or webinar system synchronously with in person attendees. Virtual, while similar to remote, includes a largely asynchronous component and fully online attendance.

In the case of ISAZ 2022, we are using remote as an option to attend parts of the conference synchronously via Zoom, while also participating in the same OnDemand content and recordings as the in person attendees. If we find it necessary to pivot to a fully online conference, we will switch to virtual attendance, with sessions broadcast similar to ISAZ 2021 and a much larger gallery of OnDemand content.
Isn't this all simply "online"?​

Actually, no. Online suggests a fully asynchronous conference with no "live" or synchronous activity.
While we will certainly using the "online" space for much of the conference, what we are planning (in either format) is not truly "online" as defined in pedagogical terms.

Currently, we are planning an in person conference with partial remote attendance. This means that most activities will be in person, but attendees who cannot travel to join us will be able to access the OnDemand content; livestreams of keynotes, the general membership meeting, and the funding workshop; and other recorded content if/as made available.

Should we find that we need to pivot to a fully virtual conference due to COVID, attendees can anticipate a conference that looks, works, and feels much like ISAZ 2021.
Should I plan on being in person, remote, or virtual?​
At this time, we are planning an in person conference, which is where most of our content and activities will take place. However, we are offering some content remotely for those who cannot attend in person, while also being prepared to pivot to a virtual conference.
